How to fix WordPress when it gets stuck in maintenance mode

Urgh. We have all been there haven’t we? We have updated a WordPress Plugin or added a new plugin and BOOM your site goes down with the dreaded screen that says ” Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute. ” No matter what you do, the site doesn’t come back up and you are suddenly in a bit of a panic. Well hold on to your hats folks, because there is a really quick fix!

This sucks right?!? You can fix it!

Using your FTP software OR your file manager in your hosting account, navigate to the root directory of your public.html (or www) folder.

In that folder you will see a file called ‘.maintenance’ – just delete it. Yup. That’s it. Just delete the file. Once you delete the file your WordPress website will be open again and not stuck in that pesky maintenance mode!

Not sure what FTP is or how to get into your file manager within your hosting? Contact us and we’ll talk you through it!
